Trending - Bright, Bold Florals

For myself, I know that I struggle to let go of 'Matchy, Matchy'.  Being brave in mixing harmonious colors and finishes is the challenge for me.  But I've learned from my designer daughter that to get an outstanding effect, we have to take chances in colors as well as pattern finishes and textures.  I look at design blogs and Pinterest boards and am amazed at how far you can push the boundaries and still create a striking, cohesive look.

Designer Lisa Farmer of Lexington, Kentucky, in her blog Eye For Design says, "Think big, bold floral prints, bright colors and contemporary designs to keep your floral themed decor fresh...you can choose from modern and elegant bold floral designs to complement your contemporary décor."

Floral patterns are in and always will be.  House Beautiful suggests taking a fearless approach, mixing patterns to modernize the overall look.

We love our gardens and outdoor spaces and bringing the color and organic shapes inside will never be off trend. This year’s hottest wallpapers and printed fabrics feature floral motifs. Be brave with large scale patterns, vibrant hues and big, bold blooms. These are not your Grandmother's florals...although I am a grandmother now so I've decided that grandmothers aren't as old as they used to be!

The Inspiriation - Start With a Great Picture and Go From There!

Decorators might call it your 'Lead' piece.  In a bedroom, it may be your comforter, the curtains, or a piece of art.  In the living room you might take your inspiration from a throw pillow, upholstered chair fabric, or again...a piece of art.

It's the item that everything in the room relates back to some how, whether it be color, pattern, or texture.

When it comes to the bathroom, we're likely using one of two things as the décor 'lead'.  If you have a canvas or poster that you love, that's a perfect starting place.  And in most rooms, starting with a poster would be natural and easy.  But in the bathroom, we immediately come up against the lack of choices in shower curtains, which is a very large element and not always easy to coordinate.  Stores will have various choices but you'll be lucky to find something 'just right'.

This is why I get so excited about the Sherwin Williams LetsChipIt.com tool.

I worked with a client this month on a Superhero themed bathroom for her boys.  I only have daughters, but I do have grandsons, and they love their Superheros!  She showed me the Superman poster below, which was her lead piece.

I suggested that she run it through the LetsChipIt process and let the tool pull the dominate colors out for us.  From there, it was easy for me to apply the Sherwin Williams paint color codes to the stripes on her Superhero Inspired shower curtain.  It turned out so great!

An added bonus is being able to stop in at Sherwin Williams and pick up the paint color swatches.  Tuck them in your purse and you have your bathroom colors handy when you stumble on to a sale on towels or rugs.  Much easier than carrying a Superman poster into Target!

Of course, this process isn't exclusive to kid bathrooms!  Run any photo through LetsChipIt and we can incorporate the colors you want into any of our items.  It's really fun, and the possibilities are endless!
